DynaScent Operating System
DynaScent Operating System (DSOS) includes a windows based Graphic User Interface (GUI), a Microsoft Database Management System (DBMS), and an integrated motion control driver.
DSOS has been modelled from the operation experience of more than 10,000 samples and has been upgraded over the past ten years. It incorporates many intelligent algorithms depending on the panellist responses. The whole testing procedures are fully automated and require no operator interference. For example, a testing round is only completed if all the panellists are reported “correct and certain”. A flushing at the mixing chamber is initiated right away since the next dilution step in the next round starts at much lower concentration level. When the testing is complete, it alerts the operator to remove the sample bag from the drum so that all the connections in contact with the sample can be flushed under high pressure. The flushing process is efficient and only lasts 1 minute.
DSOS allows the user to input the sample details at the beginning of the testing and to set the starting dilution step. DSOS displays the actual status of the valves and the panellist’s responses. DSOS calculates the results at the end of each round and examines the testing result after two rounds. Should the student t-test fail, a system clean is carried out before a third round is added.
The integrated motion controller driver controls needle valves to set different dilution ratios and ball valves to direct air flows to different sniffing cups. Furthermore, the operating software implements the comprehensive cleaning procedure at each stage of the testing: cup cleaning, mixing chamber cleaning, sampling drum and connecting tubing cleaning.
But it does not stop there.
All the experiment parameters along with the panellist responses have been saved in a relational database management system. There is no manual data processing required. All the tables have been designed to assist the manager to understand the performance of the panellists and the operation of the odour laboratory. The forms such as instrument calibration results are displayed on the screen to comply with the accreditation requirements. Most of all, data integrity has been preserved.
